2017 Bucket List: 40 Things To Do This Year

Now that day 1 of 365 has set in motion, don’t just linger inside the boxes of your new year resolutions. Instead, hit the ground running and go do something creative, daring, and adventurous -- for yourself, with a friend, or for the greater good. If you don’t know where to begin, here’s to embracing the new year with a bucket list of 40 things you ought to do to make your 2017 a year of achieving your goals, fulfilling your dreams, and simply making your life more worthwhile.

  1. Read 50 books. From Harry Potter to Jane Austen to The Happiness Project, just grab whatever catches your attention and flip through the pages.
  2. Learn a Filipino dialect.
  3. Disconnect from social media for a week. I know your life depends on being online but it’s also quite rejuvenating to put your phone down once in a while.
  4. Take your passport wallet with you and travel alone.
  5. Write yourself a letter and read it ten years later.
  6. Say yes to everything for a whole day.
  7. Make a scrapbook full of memories.
  8. Learn to meditate.
  9. Wear your quirky camera strap around your neck and become a decent photographer.
  10. Reconnect with an old friend. Add him on Facebook and schedule a coffee date.
  11. Sew something you can wear.
  12. Start a blog. Let it be your thought catalog, your personal diary, or your creative portfolio.
  13. Consistently go to the gym for two months. Just have your headphones on and the Spotify ‘Cardio’ playlist on full blast; you’ll have your motivations singing in no time.
  14. Watch all the 2016 Golden Globe Winning Best Pictures. There’s always time for five-star movies.
  15. Create a new ice cream flavor.

  7. Set up camp, bring your trusty foldable backpack, and sleep under the stars.
  8. Sail a boat.
  9. Horseback ride on the beach.
  10. Swim with turtles.
  11. Keep your paint brushes inside your pencil case and take an art class.
  12. Vlog your summer trip.
  13. Complete a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle.
  14. Ride a tandem bike.
  15. Celebrate a holiday in a different country.
  16. Watch the sunrise and sunset in one day.

  1. Donate blood.
  2. Make a homemade beauty product.
  3. Start your own social enterprise.
  4. Take your wallet out of your tote bag and pay for the coffee of the one next in line. 
  5. Drink only water for a week. When you head to school or to the office, bring your multi-way backpack with your own
  6. water bottle so you can resist the urge to spend for a drink.
  7. Start an herb garden.
  8. Run in a charity race.
