While working out or going to the gym regularly is a surefire way to keep yourself fit and active, it takes discipline and willpower to keep at it. In our busy lives, it can be difficult to make time to workout and when you do find the time, it can feel like a chore.
However, staying active doesn’t have to be something you dread! There are so many activities that don’t always come across as “workouts” but are instead simple and fun activities that get you moving while you have a great time.
Here are 7 fun ways to stay active and get yourself moving.
Go sightseeing on foot or by bike.

Taking a walk or riding a bike for a few minutes a day is a great way to take a break from chores or work and keep yourself active at the same time. It can also be a good way to clear your mind and find renewed focus when you get back. Do it with a friend or family member and it will be even more enjoyable—it can even be a great bonding moment!
Walk your dog—or someone else’s!

People who walk their dogs regularly get more physical activity than most people, since their furry companion needs to get outside every day! Going for a brisk walk daily not only allows your pup to get much-needed exercise, but it also forces you to get moving, too. If you don’t have a pooch, offer to walk your friend’s—they’ll both appreciate it!
Go for a swim at the local pool, lake or beach.

A few hours of swimming at the pool, lake or beach can be a fun way to burn some calories—especially during the summer season. Pack a healthy lunch in your Mimosa Duffle Bag and call a buddy to come along and do a few laps or play water games before settling in by the pool to chill and chat.
Attend a free fitness class in your area.

Sometimes local organizations hold free fitness sessions like Zumba or yoga for the community. Check for announcements or schedules in your community center or in the nearest park—sometimes these events even get started on Facebook. Joining these public classes can be a good way to get some exercise for free and meet other people in the area, too!
Get friends together for outdoor games.

Organize a day of fun outdoor games with friends or family—pick your favorite sport and hit the park, you can even make it a mini-Olympics of sorts. Put everyone in teams and play short games. You can play basketball, football, soccer, dodgeball, capture the flag, tag, or whichever game you like most.

Do a night on the town and dance the night away or look for a dance class that you can all attend as a group—maybe even something outside of your comfort zone. You can try different types of dances each week—hip hop, contemporary, or salsa—just to keep it interesting. You can also do it at home, just crank up your favorite tunes and dance around your house for about 15 minutes every day. You’ll be moving your body and burning calories and it won’t even feel like you’re working out.
Take up a fitness challenge

Get your competitive spirit going by challenging yourself and friend to do a 30-day fitness challenge. You can do an ab, arm, squat or burpee challenge. Create your own regime or use an already developed challenge. It can be something as simple as challenging yourself to go for a quick run or do 10 push-ups every day.
Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter what you do to stay active as long as it’s enjoyable to you. Making your exercise fun will help to keep you motivated and healthy. Try any of the activities listed above, or talk with friends to come up with other ideas that will get you motivated. Don’t let exercise be a chore—get moving and have a great time doing it!
