“Paper and craft kits, please Santa,” wrote the little girl on her Christmas Wish List. Not toys nor clothes, but art materials. It was her childhood passion, her fascination -- but more than that, it was her forte.
And so, she went on, from receiving craft kits; to chasing her dreams as she studied Communications in Ateneo, Continuing Education at Parsons, and Graphic Design in New York University; to pursuing her passion through teaching craft classes and workshops for kids called “Art Adventures.”
Indeed, it was an art adventure -- and what a journey it was. Even when she’d explore a new city, she would immediately sign up for random design classes and craft workshops. When she’d travel around the country, she’d draw inspiration from the variously diverse Filipino cultures, crafts, and flora and infuse her own interpretation of these onto her artworks. Guess you can say, her passion was her drive and every waking moment was an opportunity for her to learn, play, create, design, and cultivate.
But first things first, she always starts off with a good ‘ol hearty breakfast.
She is Alessandra Lanot: morning person, paints watercolor patterns, teaches craft workshops, shares her love for vegetarian food through her restos, blogs at LifeAfterBreakfast.ph, and is a Girl Boss 24/7.
Her professional “life after breakfast” first began way back 2011, when she’d blog about her craft experiments, art classes, design process and her passion for the arts, all of which began after her favorite meal of the day. Readers were hooked, fellow crafters were inspired, and people began reaching out to her. As a natural nurturer, Alessa in turn opened herself up to the community by organizing craft classes and unique events.
To this day, her days still begin after her morning grub -- after which, she continues to inspire and encourage creativity through modern calligraphy, pattern design, and watercolor workshops, among many others. While she teaches on weekends, she works on creative play, design projects and collaborations during the rest of the week. She has recently been enjoying painting with watercolor and gouache which transpired in her latest pattern design project, MariMari Clothing.
Always armed with a pen or paintbrush and daylight’s infectious energy, her artistic journey has led her to accomplish amazing feats and to create wonderful memories. And as long as there’s sunlight and breakfast, she hopes to fill in the next chapters of her story with continued learning, evolving, and sharing her life’s passion and inspiration through each stroke of her creative expression.
