Hey there, Girl Boss! Do you have a fledgling side hustle on top of your full-time job right now? Are you trying to adjust to the workload you’ve taken on? We know that balancing two jobs is a difficult task at times. But we know that it’s worth it. We’ve come to the rescue with some tips on how to stay organized with your side hustle whilst keeping your cool.
1. Keep your workspace clean and organized.
Your workspace greatly affects your work pace. The simple act of putting away your things at the end of the day does wonders for your work the next day. It goes without saying that it’s important to have a proper desk and chair you’ll work on. If you have a home office, it’s a must to have enough storage space for files and materials. Develop a filing system so you’ll know the specific location to find things you may need in the future.
2. Plan your social media in advance.
Don’t put it off to the last minute. Block of a specific time in the month where you plan out your social media content, newsletters, and blog posts. Take loads of pictures and schedule them to be automatically posted on specific dates (we use Buffer for Instagram) so you won’t have to worry about what to post for the day.
3. Set goals for your side job.
Where do you want to be a year from now? Write down your goals with your full-time and side jobs so you have a clear idea of what you’re working hard for. Pin down milestones you want to attain. And when time comes that you start doubting what you’re doing (we’ve all been there!), go back to the goals you wrote down in the first place to remind you.
4. Set a schedule and stick to it.
Have a clear set of working hours for you to strictly follow. While you have your full-time job taking up most of your day, identify which part of your day you’ll commit to working on your side job. Will it be early in the morning before work, n the evening after hours, or during the weekends when you have more time to spend? Anything outside of the set times should be considered “work emergencies” and not the norm.
5. Take breaks.
Remember to take care of yourself even as you hustle hard. Take breaks when you need to -- shut down the laptop, go off social media, take a leave from work. It’s important that you take care of your mental health. So during those times when you feel unmotivated and uninspired, spend time unwinding. You’ll be feeling refreshed when you get back to the grind - but better than ever.
